A Voice for the Good: Loyal K9 Rescue

We’ve teamed up with 97.3WMEE to bring you A Voice for the Good, a series in which we feature local organizations on our website in the form of an informative articles as well as on-air segments highlighting the non-profits’ missions.
This article features Loyal K9 Rescue, a local non-profit on a mission to connect furry friends with loving families in the Auburn community.
We connected with Mhegann Herendeen, Founder of Loyal K9, to learn more about the work this organization is doing in our region.
How did Loyal K9 Rescue come to be? What’s the history/story behind how the organization initially got started?
We started three years ago when we saw a huge need for animal rescue support in Auburn.
What is the official mission of Loyal K9 Rescue, and how is it currently being put into play?
We want to help our community find forever homes for surrendered dogs, special needs dogs, and puppies.
How do you see the mission and vision of Loyal K9 Rescue evolving in the future in the Northeast Indiana community? Where do you see your organization a year from now, or even five years from now?
We hope to be continuing to help dogs in our community, with adoptions increasing ever year! We’d also love to be partnering with more local rescues and shelters to have even more of an impact, together.
Are there any exciting new developments, updates, or changes that have recently taken place at Loyal K9 Rescue?

Could you share a standout story or two that really illustrates the impact of Loyal K9 Rescue and/or its programs has on dogs (or their humans) in our community?
Each of the special needs dogs and senior dogs we help stay etched in our minds forever. Getting them the support they need to live healthily and comfortably in their forever homes inspires us to keep doing what we do.

Are there other local non-profit organizations that Loyal K9 Rescue works/partners with to enhance their programs?
Yes! We currently partner with Justice Animal Rescue (JAR), Humane Fort Wayne, and Shadarobah Horse Rescue. We’d love to keep growing our list of community partners.
Are there opportunities for community members to volunteer at Loyal K9 Rescue—and if so, how can they go about learning more?
Absolutely. We are always in need of fostering! Please contact us if you’re interested.
